I'm currently using an LG P970 phone with an android ver 4.0.4.
The issue is that out of nowhere, my SD carte (SanDisk 8GB) just went into a read-but format. I can't use my camera, apps stored on my SD are now pretty useless, and I can't edit/shop/delete files from the SD (via phone or PC).

I call up this isn't an isolated instance and some people take experienced this with their devices but have found solutions. The problem is I have tried unmounting/mounting the card, mistake-checking on PC, and fifty-fifty resetting the telephone back to factory settings, but nothing seems to work in my case(even the files are still intact, as if they're immortal:saint:).

I'grand not a "techie" person and so hopefully there's a simple solution to this.

Hi alcarrot welcome to AF. :)

How long have you had the SD? Information technology could take worn out, this does happen. Can you re-format information technology on your PC? Backup the contents kickoff before you try. If it can't be formatted, replace information technology. Removable storage media does accept a finite life, tin only be written to a certain number of times. It might accept gone read but to protect the contents.

    alcarrot and IOWA similar this.

I've only been using the SD card for around 6months though.
But I'll try testing my phone with a unlike SD card and see if information technology still reacts the same way.
    Thank you for the help!

when mirco sd cards go into read-simply mode and y'all didn't put them that way via software means, information technology'south a sign that they're dying. it's a built-in feature to salve your data on a declining card. back up the data, swap cards, motility on. these things happen.

    Hi all,

Kickoff post hither and yes, I know the thread is already quite old, but I cartel to inquire anyway well-nigh this finite life of SD cards :

I now had the problem on 3 (yes three !) SD cards which died later on about only 2 months. Same symptoms every bit "alcarrot", cannot write to menu anymore, nor format information technology, but data is readable without any consequence. Two of them were ofrom "ADATA" and the tertiary from "Transcend".

These cards were used inside Xiaomi phones (Redmi2 and Redmi2 Pro, two different devices) and happened to exist worn out after a footling month or two. I did nothing special with them, at to the lowest degree I don't recollect so. Unless storing mp3, pics and running Titanium Backup every nighttime would have been enough to induce and so many writes ! I don't think and then.

I'g wondering where the trouble came from (smartphone / sd card / other ?) and equally said, this happened with different card brands and as well in two dissimilar devices.

Has anybody already encountered such a disappointment ? If I have to buy a new 64GB carte every two months, information technology won't exist cheap for my budget...

I naturally tried to get them replaced by the manufacturer, but he want'southward me to ship dorsum the faulty items before replacing them, this I can empathize, but I don't wanna ship them my individual family unit pictures and all other data yet residing on them as the data is perfectly readable, merely isn't writable or deletable anymore. They besides don't desire me to cut them with scissors earlier sending dorsum. Such a shame ! I idea the customer should be the king, merely this was loooong years ago I assume. :-(

Thanks in advance for stories of other people having had aforementioned issues

    Cheers

Hi EarlyMon, thanks for watching and the ii links you posted ! Didn't endeavor them yet merely volition do asap.

I idea of counterfeit cards, yes. But I don't think they are as they got bought in honnest swiss shops here and non on any obscure chinese internet website. Anyway, it could well exist...

THANKS ! Volition continue posted if I become any further.

  8. Yeah - even honest retailers go burned by the supply concatenation sometimes. I always bank check mine, first thing.

OK, and then "SD Insight" doesn't seem to remember the cards are fake. At to the lowest degree the correct manufacturer is displayed. But this surely also could be counterfeit, isn't information technology ? I don't know if there are other things to check. Anyhow, I don't think they are apocryphal but still wondering how I managed to burn out iii cards in less than 6 months !

The SD formater yous pointed me to also just says the SD card is write-protected, as the unlike smartphones or even my DashCam says. And it naturally doesn't accept anything to do with the concrete lock bachelor on microSD card adapters, unfortunately... :-(

Thank you a lot anyway and take a nice one ! I wrote again to the manufacturer to run into if they would accept to help in a manner or some other.
